Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez has been named the American League Pitcher of the Month for June.

Hernandez went 3-1 with a 1.22 ERA (6 ER, 44.1 IP) in 6 starts during the month. He struck out 54 batters during the month to tie for 2nd in the AL (Darvish – 57, Price – 54), the most strikeouts he has recorded in a month during his career (previous: 51 in June 2010, August 2010, August 2011).

His 1.22 ERA is 10th-lowest in a month in club history (min. 5 GS), and the 4th-lowest of his career (0.82 – August 2010, 0.94 – June 2009, 1.08 – August 2012).

This is the fourth monthly honor for Hernandez, also winning the award in August 2012, September 2009 and June 2009. Felix is the only pitcher in club history to win more than two Pitcher of the Month awards (Randy Johnson – 2, Mark Langston – 2). Edgar Martinez won five Player of the Month Awards during his Mariners career.

For the season, Hernandez is 10-2 with a 2.10 ERA and has recorded 137 strikeouts in his 18 starts.
